Eiffel's Paris - An Engineer’s Guide

The Eiffel Tower, a masterpiece of 19th century engineering, stands near the center of Paris. For many, the tower stands for Paris itself, but its real significance reaches far beyond. Gustave Eiffel constructed his tower for the 1889 Exposition Universelle to mark France as a leader in the scientific and technological advances that defined the 19th century. On the tower's four sides Eiffel inscribed the names of 72 French scientists and engineers - heroes of a revolution that transformed Paris and the world. This map visits sites related to these men and the revolution in science and technology they created.
